Trainee Punch and Laser Operator

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Trainee Punch and Laser Operator to join our production team and develop skills within our sheet metal blanking area. The ideal candidate will have a practical attitude, willingness to learn, and good attention to detail when working with machinery, materials, and production instructions. This is an important trainee role, offering hands-on training and support to help produce accurate components safely, consistently, and to the required standard.

Monday 7:30am 4:30pm
Tuesday 7:30am 4:30pm
Wednesday 7:30am 4:30pm
Thursday 7:30am 4:30pm
Friday 7:30am 2:00pm
Saturday
Sunday

Total: 42.5 hrs/week

Core Responsibilities

  • Learn to operate CNC punch press and fibre laser machinery safely and correctly under guidance from experienced team members.
  • Support the preparation of materials, programmes, tooling, and job details before production work begins.
  • Carry out basic quality checks during production to help ensure parts meet drawing, dimension, and finish requirements.
  • Maintain clear communication with team leaders and colleagues to support workflow, priorities, and safe working practices.
  • Keep work areas clean and organised, following company procedures and reporting any issues with machinery, materials, or product quality.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • A practical and reliable approach, with a genuine willingness to learn and develop within a manufacturing environment.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to follow instructions, measurements, and basic production information accurately.
  • Good timekeeping, communication, and teamwork skills, with a positive attitude towards safety and quality.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, warehouse, or another practical hands-on environment.
  • Basic ability to read drawings, use measuring equipment, or understand production processes.
  • An interest in CNC machinery, sheet metal fabrication, engineering, or developing technical skills over time
